WeiKe Abrasives Co., Ltd. Technical Guidelines for Polishing Wheels
To Our Valued Clients:
Thank you for choosing WeiKe Abrasives Co., Ltd.’s range of polishing wheels. To assist you in optimizing your polishing processes, ensuring consistent quality of finished workpieces, and reducing material waste and defect rates, WeiKe Abrasives Co., Ltd. has compiled this technical guide based on years of workshop data and on-site customer usage. This guide standardizes the selection of polishing wheels, recommended rotational speeds, and on-site safety protocols.
Explanation of Factors Affecting the Polishing Process
The final polishing result of a workpiece is influenced by multiple factors, including the material of the raw material, abrasive grit size, workpiece geometry, operating conditions of the processing equipment, polishing pressure, duration of a single polishing cycle, the selected polishing wheel configuration, and the choice of polishing wax. The linear speed of the polishing wheel is a key parameter that determines both polishing quality and wheel lifespan.
Linear speed is determined by the combination of the polishing wheel diameter and the equipment spindle speed (RPM). Before operation, please refer to the table below to match parameters and set the equipment speed appropriately.
Reference Table for Matching Polishing Wheel Diameter and Spindle Speed

Note: The yellow-highlighted ranges in the table indicate the recommended line speeds for polishing metal workpieces.
Standard Line Speeds for Each Process (Measured Optimal Parameters)
Based on data from large-scale pilot production trials, standard line speeds have been established for each process according to different material categories. These can be directly applied to the mass production of metal, plastic, and hardware components:
Rough Grinding: 30 m/s
Workpiece Sanding and Priming: 15 m/s
Fine Mirror Polishing of Various Metals: 35 m/s
Brightening and Polishing of Hardware Components: 20 m/s
Polishing of Plastic and Resin Workpieces: 15 m/s
Key Process Considerations
Higher polishing wheel speeds result in stronger cutting and grinding capabilities, but the overall flexibility of the polishing wheel decreases accordingly. If operating pressure is too high or the actual linear speed exceeds the process standards, intense friction between the workpiece and the polishing wheel will generate significant heat, making it highly likely to cause surface scorching on the workpiece and charring or damage to the polishing wheel, thereby increasing production costs.
Equipment Installation and Safety Operating Guidelines
Factory Testing: All WeiKe Abrasives Co., Ltd. polishing wheels undergo safety overspeed testing prior to shipment, with a standard safety test speed range of 2000–6000 RPM.
Mounting Requirements: Polishing wheels must be mounted on a stable spindle that is vibration-free and dynamically balanced. The width of the flange stops on both sides must be no less than 40% of the polishing wheel’s outer diameter, and the equipment guard must fully cover the polishing wheel’s operational area.
Personal Protective Equipment Requirements: When operating the machine, personnel must wear a safety helmet, safety goggles, and abrasion-resistant work gloves to prevent personal injury from debris and high-temperature waste material.
