16-Inch Light Blue Cotton Buffing Wheel for Soft Metals
A mildly hardened 16-inch cotton buffing wheel engineered for gentle leveling on softer metals.
The light-blue treatment adds controlled cutting action for aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and thin stainless steel without the aggressiveness of a deep-blue wheel.
It is a useful transition wheel when buyers need to remove machining marks while protecting part geometry and surface thickness.
• Size / model: 16 in / approximately 406 mm; confirm wheel width and center-hole dimensions for the customer’s machine.
• Material & construction: multi-layer cotton cloth with a light-blue treatment; loose-form cotton wheel with mild stiffness and broad surface contact.
• Manufacturing: layered cotton construction treated to provide a gentle, repeatable cutting response.
• Performance / process stage: transition leveling and medium polishing before final brightening. Recommended compound: purple medium-grit polishing compound as recommended on the product page.
• Surface fit: flat, curved and irregular soft-metal parts. Use moderate-to-light pressure and make overlapping passes; reduce pressure further on thin or delicate parts.
• Suitable materials: aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and thin stainless steel.
Product Description
The light-blue treated cotton wheel fills the gap between a soft white finishing wheel and a more aggressive blue hardened wheel. Its mild treatment gives enough bite to reduce machining traces, while the cotton face remains forgiving on aluminum, zinc and thin stainless components.
This balance is commercially useful for die-cast hardware, appliance trim, lighting parts and other non-ferrous components where excessive cutting can change edges or create additional rework. The 16-inch format offers broad coverage for production shops without positioning the wheel as a heavy stock-removal tool.
For best process control, pair it with a medium polishing compound and follow with a softer white wheel when a brighter mirror finish is required. Parts with deep scratches or substantial oxide scale should be prepared with a coarser operation first.
Application boundary: Heavy oxidation and deep scratches require prior treatment with a coarser abrasive or emery wheel.

Features & Advantages
• Mild hardening provides gentler cutting than deep-blue treated cotton.
• Helps level machining marks without excessive erosion of soft-metal surfaces.
• Large 16-inch diameter supports efficient processing of medium and large components.
• Useful bridge between coarse preparation and final mirror brightening.
Applications
• Transition polishing of aluminum and zinc die-cast components.
• Controlled leveling of thin stainless trim and light-gauge fabricated parts.
• Finishing of appliance hardware, lighting components and decorative non-ferrous parts.
• Pre-mirror preparation before a soft white cotton finishing wheel.
How to Use
1. Inspect the wheel before use and confirm the diameter, bore, width and rated speed match the machine.
2. Mount it with the correct flanges and guarding; run the wheel without load while standing clear of its plane.
3. Keep a dedicated wheel for each compound and material family to prevent cross-contamination.
4. Apply purple medium-grit polishing compound sparingly and refresh it only when cutting or gloss begins to fall.
5. Use moderate-to-light pressure and make overlapping passes; reduce pressure further on thin or delicate parts.
6. Use trained operators, eye and face protection, suitable respiratory protection and effective local dust extraction. Stop if vibration, damage or unusual heat appears.
